A Registered Non-profit Animal Rescue Organization

OUR HAPPINESS FILE

Chitra Besbroda, now under the umbrella organization Sentient Creatures
has been rescuing animals for almost 30 years. In that time over 3,500
animals have been saved from a cruel fate. Read our success stories below.

Chitra and Sentient Creatures on behalf of the rescued animals would like
to offer our sincere gratitude for the many volunteers and adoptive and foster
homes that have made these success stories possible.

THANK YOU!

A HAPPY ENDING

Scotto family

Ricochet who is in the front right side was adopted from Sentient
Creatures, when she was 5 weeks old, that was in December 1993. She
is a big gal, a doberman/lab mix with the body of the doberman but
the coloring and hair of the lab. Buster (the guy in the background)
was adopted from the Staten Island Council for Animal Welfare. The third
guy Spanky (front left was adopted from the ASPCA 12 1/2 years ago
from death row). They are quite a crew, all orphans, quite pampered
and as you can tell, their expression reflects that happiness.

Their proud mom is Debbie Scotto

RESCUES AND ADOPTIONS - 2001
2002 Coming Soon!

Percy
Aka Mr. Biggs...He was rescued by a woman in the Bronx and later given to
a foster home. She had witnessed the dog being dumped out of a speeding car,
kicked a few times and abandoned by a man who sped away leaving a whimpering
dog to suffer. This little dog soon forgot his misery and found after finding
a loving home in January of 2001.

Lucy
A little black mixed breed puppy was taken out of a substandard home environment
where Lucy was tied to a radiator and neglected. She began to thrive with better care
and was adopted in February of 2001.

Amber
One of another rescue's pups (Dorrie) who moved around twice before
she was finally adopted on March of 2001.

Rosie
A pure breed Rotty was rescued from a basement in East Harlem. She was spayed at our
and adopted to a man in April 2000. Sadly, less than a year later, Rosie was found
abandoned near the bus depot in East Harlem. Rosie was traced by her ID tag to our
organization and brought back into foster until she found a perfect forever home March 2001.

Jimmy and Dorre:
Adopted together by a wonderful couple in Manhattan, April 2001. Jimmy is a black labrador
mix was rescued at night in the middle of a blizzard. The two dogs were sheltered together
and became best friends and were ecstatic to find a home together.

Remy
This blind Shihtzu was rescued from the CACC in May 2001 where he was certainly a candidate
for euthanasia. He was fostered then adopted his foster 'mom' along with Girlie (the cat) on June of the same year. They all now live happily in Maine.

Ruben
Aka Tiko...A Cocker Spaniel mix was brought to the ASPCA in July of 2001 by a
man who did want the sick dog. He was rescued by Sentient Creatures and immediately
hospitalized with a suspicion of Parvo Virus, treated and later discharged. After
a brief period in foster care, he was adopted in August of 2001.

Ashley
Another of Dorre's pups who had a few unsuccessful placements, was finally adopted on
May 26, 2001. The adoptive family had formerly adopted a hard-to-place mixed breed
named Sally, who had sadly died a few months previous.

Sammy
A very neglected malnourished puppy who was rescued by Chitra from a home from the home
of an incapacitated woman in July of 2001. After lots of attention and special food
Sammy was able to leave his foster home to be adopted by a family in Riverdale, Aug. 2001.

Bonnie
Along with her brother and mother, these 3 starving dogs were imprisoned in an overheated
ground floor apartment. A truly sad story. The rescuer was unable to feed them due to them.
Bonnie, the skinniest, starving and desperate, finally managed to jump through the window
to the sidewalk looking for freedom. Sentient Creatures managed to catch her and take her
into foster. The other two were rescued by the ASPCA. The owner charged with animal cruelty.

Bonnie was emaciated, her coat dry and brittle. Her nails long as she had never walked
outside her 'prison'. She had diarrhea and was ill from eating her own feces in order to
survive. She was carefully nurtured until she regained her health. She became a truly
loveable, attractive dog and was adopted by a family in September of 2001.

Madison
A 10 week old Akita mix puppy, she was abandoned in a Bronx apartment. Rescued
on September 10th Madison was nursed to good health and adopted in November.

Lindsay
A pregnant Bull Terrier, she was rescued from a junkyard in August of 2001 as her
owner had been incarcerated. We learned all the fetuses were dead inside her
and she was at risk of dying, so she had an abortion and had to spend 4 costly months
in the Westside Veterinary Centre. She was finally adopted in December.
